ZAPATA AND CARRANZA FIGURES
ortraits of heroes of the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1919, such as
Emiliano Zapata and
Venustiano Carranza, are typical of nationalistic figural ceramics found throughout Latin America. Heroes of independence wars with Spain, favorite presidents, folk heroes, and prominent figures of popular culture are frequently subjects of images made and sold to local citizens, who place them in their homes as decorative items.
